Training for Height Safety, Confined Space, Rescue and First Aid

Do you work at heights? Have you got a statement of attainment for RIIWHS204D?

Here, we aren’t trying to tell you how to do your job. We simply want you to understand your surroundings, think about the task at hand, and how you’re going to walk through your front door to see your partner, kids and loving families – when it’s time to sign off.

Safety starts with you

Whether it’s your first or last day on the job, you can prevent a fall, have a rescue plan in place or be prepared to carry out first aid. We see and hear of too many incidents where skilled labourers are injured or die because of poor attitude. Think about your loved ones. Walking on a roof unhooked because you’ve done that for ‘years’ doesn’t mean your phone won’t ring and you’ve slipped trying to get it out of your phone. Not that you would know that though – your partner will. Training can be boring, but for 7hrs of your life, its better spent sitting in our air conditioned classroom with a coffee – rather than your loved ones saying goodbye at your funeral.

Working at heights is a high risk activity and a leading cause of death and serious injury in Australia.

Between 1 January 2003 and 31 December 2015:

  • 359 workers were killed following a fall from a height—11% of all workers killed over this period.
  • Half of these falls involved falling three metres or less.
  • The greatest number of fatalities involved falling from roofs (59), ladders (54), vehicles (27) and horses (33).
  • Workers aged 45 years and over made up 65% of those who died.
  • The construction industry accounted for 37% of falls-related fatalities.
